Picking a first dance song can be super hard! There are tons of love songs out there, and you want to find the perfect song that represents you as a couple. Of course there are the tried and true songs that have been around for decades. I love classics as much as the next person (my own first dance song was La Vie en Rose by Louis Armstrong), but I also love all the new and unique songs that are out!

This list is for those couples that want a first dance song as unique as their love. A song that won’t also be the same first dance song as 10 of their other friends. As much as I love Ed Sheeran and all his swoon-worthy wedding songs, I think it’s time for couples to step out of the box and look beyond the normal top 40 on the radio. I’ve been compiling this list for the past year or so, and I think it has a lot of great options! There’s romance, upbeat tempos, and some of the sweetest lyrics around. 1. Lauv – Paris in the Rain

I love the upbeat feel of this song! “Anywhere with you feels like, Paris in the rain” Like, swoon city! Just picture yourself dancing with your lover in the rain in the glow of the Eiffel tower. Perfect first dance song!

2. Leon Bridges – Beyond (acoustic version)

This song is reminiscent of an older decade, with a little twist to it. It talks about falling in love, and how you it feels when you find the right person.

3. Hozier – Movement

As a dancer, this one speaks to me through the lyrics “when you move, I move”. Hozier’s voice is enchanting. I must say the video does not portray it as a love song, so just listen and don’t watch the video haha.

4. LANY – ILYSB

One of my couples last year actually used this song as their first dance song and I loved it so much! It’s so young and fresh!

5. Graham Colton – Hold Onto My Heart

“You don’t know how you look in imaginary white, oh but I do” – If that doesn’t make you weak in the knees, then I don’t know what will! This whole song is so sweet and romantic. I love the guitar and the pace of the song.

6. Calum Scott & Leona Lewis – You are the Reason

I like this one because it has both a male and female singing, which I feel is relatable to both parts of a couple! The lyrics and vocals are so emotional and beautiful!

7. Alina Baraz – Electric

I’m in love with her voice and the feelings of this song. It’s a more fast paced tempo, but it’s sexy and sultry and I love it so much. And of course Khalid is insane talented!

8. The National Parks – You are Gold

This is such a laid-back, cute song! I think it’s so sweet, and the perfect song for a couple who isn’t overly mushy.

9. The Paper Kites – Bloom

This is such a pretty, soft, folksy song. It’s so sweet and melodic, and I can’t get enough!

10. Taylor Swift – You are in Love

There are a few songs that can make me cry, and this is one of them. I relate to it so much! All the small moments and things that build a relationship and add up to love. I love the part where she says she’s spent her whole life trying to put it into words (love) and how true is that?! There are so many ways to describe love and and the process of falling in love, but in the end its just such an indescribable feeling. You can’t describe it, you just know it.
